40 Lesser known uses of Aloe Vera

Today, I bring you forty fabulous uses from this "plant of immortality," as affectionately dubbed by the Egyptians 6,000 years ago.
That's right; the spiky, green gem has a rich history of various cultures and personalities who used the plant's moist middle in a plethora of practical uses. Like Cleopatra who applied the gel to her body as part of her beauty regimen, the ancient Greeks who used it to cure everything from baldness to insomnia to the Native Americans who called aloe vera the "Wand of the Heaven."

1. Pamper yourself to a soothing body rub. Slice aloe leaves lengthwise and use the inner sides as a biodegradable body scrub in the shower.
2. Treat burns from minor mishaps in the kitchen—from grease splatters or hot utensils.
3. For more major kitchen mishaps like a scald, mix some aloe gel and vitamin E oil into a little jar for a homemade burn healer.
4. Banish black and blue bruises by swapping on the good goo.
5. Soothe and heal sunburns the feel-good way. Aloe contains cooling properties similar to menthol.
6. Take the sting or itch out of insect bites.
7. Reduce tissue damage from frostbite.
8. Alleviate mysterious rashes.
9. Make feet baby soft with an exfoliating foot mask by mixing together a half cup of oatmeal, a half cup of corn meal, four tbsp. of aloe vera gel and a half cup of unscented body lotion.
10. Help heal herpes outbreaks.
11. Fight Athlete's Foot.
12. Swab over blisters for quick relief.
13. Use as an antidote to allergic skin reactions.
14. Replace creams and lotions as a general moisturizer for dry skin. Aloe is fast absorbing!
15. Prevent pesky pimples and treat acne.
16. Soothe Psoriasis.
17. Prevent scarring and stretch marks.
18. Help rid of Rosacea.
19. Shrink warts.
20. Reverse signs of aging skin and wrinkles. Cleopatra did!
21. Help eliminate Eczema.
22. Brighten skin. Aloe can decrease pigmentation and dark spots.
23. Make skin new again with an exfoliating, organic sugar scrub by mixing together two tbsp. of aloe vera, 2 tbsp. of organic brown sugar and 1 tsp. of organic lemon juice.
24. For rougher patches mix together an organic salt skin scrub using two cups of sea salt, one cup of aloe vera, one cup of organic coconut oil and two tbsp. of local, organic honey.
25. Speed up hair growth by massaging aloe into the scalp, letting it sit for 30 minutes, and rinsing.
26. Reduce hair dandruff by mixing aloe vera juice with coconut milk and wheat germ oil. Massage into scalp and rinse.
27. Replace aloe with conditioner for silkier, smoother hair.
28. Remove eye makeup.
29. Treat minor vaginal irritations.
29. Treat minor vaginal irritations.
30. Drink aloe vera juice to relieve gastrointestinal disorders like indigestion.
31. Sip it to aid in elimination. Many times, it's recommended for its laxative effects.
32. Take a swig to reduce symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome including bloating and discomfort.
33. Take aloe orally to relieve heartburn, arthritis and rheumatism pain.
34. Boil leaves in a pan of water and breathe in the vapor to alleviate asthma.
35. Drink to lower blood sugar levels—especially for diabetics.
36. Strengthen gums and promote strong, healthy teeth by taking orally or use toothpaste with aloe vera ingredients.
37. Drink to help ease congestion, stomach ulcers, colitis, hemorrhoids, urinary tract infections and prostate problems.
38. Take orally to reduce cholesterol and triglycerides for a healthy heart.
39. Sip to minimize inflammation and infection of the eye and ear.
40. Toast to its general detoxifier and health boosting qualities!

7 Must Watch Movies For The Fashion Buff!

There are only a few things that I enjoy as much as going through a fashion magazine or staying in to watch a movie. Getting to do both things at the same time is golden for me.
There have been many amazing series devoted to fashion and style, like the oh so perfect Gossip Girl, from the wardrobe, to the locations and the psychology of the characters that managed to inspire us in every single episode. Since the Serena Van Der Woodsen days are long gone, I thought it was time to bring back that amazing feeling, but this time focusing on the major motion pictures.
I’ve decided to share with you 7 of my favorite fashion related movies:

1. The Devil Wears Prada

Devil Wears Prada
I know you’ve probably seen this movie a billion times, but not including it would be a terrible sin. I won’t go a lot into what this movie is about because I don’t want to spoil it for you if you haven’t seen it. Just watch it and thank me later. This movie was adapted from a book written by Lauren Weisberger, who worked at Vogue magazine for awhile. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out she was inspired by Anna Wintour (American Vogue’s Editor-In-Chief) to create Meryl Streep’s character.

2. The September Issue

Anna Wintour
Talking about the Queen.
The September Issue is a documentary that focuses on Anna Wintour, Vogue’s Editor-In-Chief while preparing the start of the “Fashion Year”. If you didn’t know, september is like january for fashion magazines. It’s the most important issue of the year, and when you’re the leader of a magazine like Vogue, everything has to be perfect.

3. The Intern

The Intern
The Intern is a movie starring Anne Hathaway and Robert De Niro. It talks about an old man that applies for a retirement internship citizen program and lands a job at an e-commerce fashion startup. This is the best fashion + comedy combo. You’ll love it.

4. Coco Before Chanel

Coco Before Chanel
This movie is next on my list when I get to stay in. This french movie tells the story of Coco Chanel, all the way from her origins to the incredible empire she ended up building. She was truly a pioneer in the fashion world and everybody should know her story, plus I’m pretty sure this one is available on Netflix.

5. Funny Face

Funny Face
Funny Face is a musical from 1957 starring Audrey Hepburn and Fred Astaire. Audrey’s character, Jo Stockton, is discovered at a fashion shoot in a bookstore and her adventures as a model take her all the way to Paris. If you love musicals, you will adore this movie. Besides, who doesn’t love a good Audrey Hepburn movie?

6. Confessions of a Shopaholic

Confessions of a Shopaholic
A girl that loves fashion, living in New York. Sounds like a dream, right? Yeah, well… things can get really messy when you’re a shopaholic. If you love to shop and your happiness leves rise overtime you see the word “sale” you will relate. Honestly this movie is all of us, and its perfect for a popcorn night with your bestie.

7. Breakfast at Tiffany’s

Breakfast at Tiffany's
Another Audrey Hepburn movie and a classic for sure. Breakfast at Tiffany’s is based on a book written by Truman Capote. It revolves around the peculiar life of Holly Golightly, a New Yorker socialite and her cat. If you haven’t seen this one, do it, you won’t regret it. Besides, it has just the perfect touch of romance

Summer Special: Neesh Fragrances!

It is summertime, baby!

Summer is here and has brought with itself soooo much! Along with everything else, it is also a great time to explore all those fruity, refreshing perfumes that are going to be the need of the hour as the temperature rises.

One thing about perfumes I really dont like is, you have to reapply it every couple of hours. It requires effort on my part, which is difficult since I am very lazy. I dislike touch-ups.

This time, I was bored of the bottles I had and decided to look for whats new in the market.
It was then that I came across Neesh.
A few minutes with their customer service made me realise this is the one brand that I had been searching for all this while and got myself quite a few of them to try personally, listed below.

These perfumes last upto 12 hours, with each spray costing less than 1 rupee.
The best part is these are really space-effective and fit in to any bag easily.

Belle D'Oud
Let's talk about my favourite first. This has a classy, subtle scent with musk as base, and Iran Saffron for the top. There is slight hint of Indian Rose too, which is my favourite.

Moha-Beau-T
Can we talk about just how quirky these names are? I love it. ^_^
The fragrance might feel a little much at first, but once you let it sit on you for 15 minutes, it is redolent of a perfect balance of Saffron and French Rose. You can wear this for a sensuous charm around you.

Eau-De-Mehfil
Seriously, what a great name!
Wore this one to a family get-together and it was perfect. The scent has a powerful top note which wafts through and is quite tempting and oriental. It has Arabian Bakhoor and Castoreum which provides for that bold and distinctive identity one looks for in social functions.

Amour De-Oud
Amour De-Oud has a fruity, flirty aroma with White Lily and Honey Rose. It is savory and spicy, and quite sweet-smelling, perfect for a day-out with your friends.

I am looking forward to buy Attar-e-Nazajat and Zaafraan-e-Hindustan in the near future; If you want to buy yourself a few of these and others, you can visit them on www.neesh.in .
Alternatively, you can email them at info@neesh.in or call them on +91-7206277777 and buy for yourself or your special someone, some of them. They are  available for women AND men, so there is a range of variants you can choose from.

Styling a Silk Scarf : 3 Different Ideas

I’m not really one to keep up with trends, I tend to stick more with what I feel comfortable wearing. I think its best that you like what you look like the most, before anybody else.
Something that I’ve always loved, and am particularly loving right now are silk scarves. They’ve been around for a very long time and are so classic and glamorous. Plus, there are a million styles and color options. So much variety.

And while I personally would wear a scarf this way, like my fashion idol Grace Kelly, I'll talk about a few more ideas too.
If the head scarf isn’t your style, here are 3 classic ways to style the ever lasting silk scarf.

Around your Neck

Endless options here. This is the most classic, as well as most popular way to style a scarf. With the casual loose tie, handkerchief style, knotted, wrapped, I could go on. There are just a bevy of ways and styling options.

On your Bag

Very Gossip Girl inspired, only you don’t have to have a Birkin bag in this case. Tying a bright silk scarf on your bag is ‘easy accessorizing 101’. You can use your scarf to add a certain color pop to your full look, or even as a way to cover a nasty scratch on your favorite leather satchel.

In your Hair

Not as daring as the ‘Grace Kelly’ (see above), but just as effective. I love the ‘silk scarf as a hair accessory thing. A perfect combination of modern meets old Hollywood. Best part is, any hair color, texture, or length works here!
Tie your hair up in a bun, and add a silk scarf to give the appearance that it took lots of effort (totally didn’t) or wear your hair down, and tie your scarf like a headband- leaving the bow you tied exposed. Or, try a turban style; always cute and cool.

Are there any other ways to style a silk scarf according to you? Do let me know here, or tag me a picture of you sporting one on instagram @thirdworldstyle

Summer Conundrums: The Nature's Co.

Summer is here, Finally!
And while that brings a lot of happy choices for us(read kulfi v/s icecream, sherbet v/s cold drink) there are some things one does not particularly get excited about.
A grimy face laden with dirt and dust is one of them. I, for one, am an outdoor person which means I have to deal with such situations a lot.
To get rid of it, you have to use those chemical-ridden, excessively-drying facewashes that leave behind a residue.

It was all a big problem until I came across The Nature's Co. recently.

A few minutes with them made me realise they were all for natural solutions to skin problems.
I, hence, decided to try their Cool Cucumber Face Wash. As summer is here, I figured this will be the best choice.

Cucumber has a high healing property; It also tends to be very refreshing which is exactly what I experienced after using it for the first time! The aloe vera and willow tree extracts helped nourish and maintain the suppleness of the skin.
Whats more, the grime tend to be at bay for quite a while after using their product, which is very uncommon.
TNC's products do not contain harmful chemicals which is a special bonus for people like me, who have sensitive skin.
Even the preservatives they use are natural and do not harm the natural pH of the skin; All of this, and more, at very reasonable pocket friendly costs.

You can visit their website and look at some of other products by clicking HERE.
Alternatively, you can call on 022-24032212 for assistance.

If there are any other queries pertaining to skin care, do let me know in the comments below, or on instagram at ThirdWorldStyle, which is our updated user handle: different from the previous one.

25 Things Every 20-Something Person should know

The transition of life from your teens to 20s is like two different universes. The past 5 years have been full of life changing lessons and transitioning experiences that I thought it might be cool to share twenty fives things that anybody in their 20s should know(in no particular order).
Here we go…
1. Slow down.
Don’t be in such a rush to grow up.
2. Carbs are not your BFF.
Savor every bite of each chicken fry and pizza slice that hits your lips because there will come a sad time in life that the phrase “you are what you eat” becomes a reality.
3. Wipe your tears
He or she isn’t worth it. Remember, the person who you’re meant to be with should ruin your lipstick not your mascara. If you constantly have tears running down your pretty cheeks, wipe them and move on. I promise you that they aren’t all they’re cracked up to be.
4. Take Participation
Looking back at my college years, my only (give or take a thing or two) regret in college was not taking up extracurricular activities. If you have the opportunity, GO!
5. The world is not ending
Shit happens but the world will continue to go around and around, I promise. Getting caught up in every single “ he said she said” dramatic situation is so never worth getting caught up in.
6. Be you
Newsflash; not everyone is going to love you. Bigger newsflash; it’s ok. Don’t pretend to be someone you are not to be loved or to fit in. Be you. Always.
7. Hang your money in your closet
Invest in classic pieces that will never go out of style. The oh so trendy crop top and mini skirts have an expiration date.
8. Everyone has a story
Cliché or not, you never know what someone is going through. Ever. Don’t be so quick to judge.
9. Give yourself a break
Figuring life out doesn’t happen over night. Allow yourself the time you need.
10. But, it’s my birthday
Yes we know, it’s your special day. However, there comes a point in life that it is no longer acceptable to celebrate your birthday for an entire month. So, enjoy that fantasy life while it last, princess.
11. I like to, uh…
It’s called a h-o-b-b-y. Get one.
12. Broken heart
Yes, I know what they did was the most gut wrenching thing that anyone has every done to you but guess what? They did you a favor. I promise. You may not see it now but you will. Let them go, ok? Holding a grudge is bad for your skin.
13. Go for it
Excuse me while I sound like a Pinterest quote: take chances, a lot of them. Let me repeat myself; take chances, a lot of them.
14. Quality vs Quantity
Choose quality, every single time. I know that having 25 “best friends” by your side seems like the most important thing in life but when you wipe away the fog and see that the quality of those relationships means more than traveling in a pack, thank yourself.
15. Do your squats
No, I’m not joking. Your twenty-five year old body will appreciate you. Now, get to work.
16. Family
Listen to them (your mother is always right)
17. Trust
It is one of the hardest things to gain and one of the easiest things to lose. Find your balance of trusting freely and trusting wisely.
18. Looking for love
Do not do it. Do you hear me? True love will find you, especially when you least expect it. Your heart will smile a little bigger when it happens naturally so put away your magnifying glass and let life take its course.
19. Opportunities
Seize them. Take them. Grab them. However you want to phrase it – never let one slip away. If you are given the chance to go shake someone’s hand, do it. You never know where that handshake can lead you.
20. Dreams
Everyone has them. Respect yours and respect others.
21. Story time
Everyone has a story don’t forget to write your own.
22. Finances
Coming from someone who has over drawn her bank account more times then she would like to admit (don’t judge me) the sooner you become financially savvy the better. Nothing in life is free (sorry if I just burst anyone’s bubble). So, pay attention in your finance class, pick up a book at Barnes and Noble or sit down with your father so he can teach you a thing or two. Your savings account will appreciate your effort.
23. The white dress
Your girlfriends will get engaged before you do. No, that does not mean that something is wrong with you. Celebrate their next chapter while you continue to celebrate your own.
24. Change
It all changes. Try to not resist too hard, it will only make the transitions that much more stressful.
25. Don’t sweat the small stuff
Any of it. Petty issues have no business consuming your day. If you need to laugh it off, do so. Just promise me that the guy who cut you off at the green light, the coffee stain on your brand new white top or the number of likes on your Instagram post do not determine if you smile today or not.

Treat to use: Ma Earth Botanicals

As some of you might already know, I'm a big fan of natural, animal cruelty free products.

And to my delight, I came across Ma Earth Botanicals-- that provides handcrafted, high quality overall welfare solutions and luxuries of essential oils, herbs and fragrant spices which cater to the needs of the body, just like a mother would.

First, I'll mention my favourite product. The synergy blend, which has been formulated to treat bronchitis, fevers, pneumonia, sinusitis, laryngitis and also helps strengthen the immune system.
It has a very calming scent of nutmeg, cinnamon, eucalyptus, ginger and Rosemary.

The shea and cocoa butter body balm protects and nourishes dry skin. It is absorbed easily and soothes the skin.

The hydrating cream is a moisturiser suitable for all skin types. It is a rich blend of cocoa butter, avocado, apricot and almond oils.
The showstopper is the YlangYlang mud soap, which is handcrafted with love of a variety of natural oils. Its subtle earthy colour comes from natural ingredients and the pure essential oils are the reason for its calming essence.
